What is National School Governors’ Day?

National School Governors Awareness Day has been created to raise awareness of governance in our schools and celebrate the contribution that governors and trustees make to improving the experiences of children and young people.

Being a school governor is a voluntary role and it is estimated that in England alone, there are in excess of 300,000 governors and trustees, all giving their time freely to support their schools and academies.

22nd February 2022 will be the inaugural School Governors’ Awareness Day and we have developed and exciting and informative programme of events throughout the day which aim to celebrate, develop and inspire those in governance across the country. What’s even better is there is no charge at all to get involved; it is free to all.

What Governance Means To Me

If you are a school governor, we would love to hear from you about your experience and would like you to submit a short (max 90 seconds) video discussing school governance. There will be ten prizes, each of a year’s subscription to Better Governor, Strictly Education’s online Support, Advice and Guidance website (worth £199).

Find out more and upload your video on the How to Participate page.

If you are interested in becoming a governor or simply finding out a little more about what is expected of school governors, then look at some of our video clips below to see what others say about their role.
