Governance in our schools is built on the principle of trust and this session explored the strength and development of trust, using the Trusted Executive unique Nine Habits of Trust model, which is the world’s first academically verified behavioural model of trust.
Workload and Well-being – the Role of Governance
Kirstie Young – Senior HR Consultant, Strictly Education
This session explored the pressures of workload in schools and the impact it can have on the well-being of all staff. Kirstie discussed the key drivers influencing workload and how this has been exacerbated by the coronavirus pandemic.
Using examples from schools, she encouraged governors to reflect on what schools can do to reduce workload and improve well-being and what actions governors can take to support that.

Alice Long – Governors for Schools

Steve’s early career was in international marketing and advertising. He has over thirty years’ experience in school governance across all phases of education and currently chair of the Governing Body at Bagshot Infant School in Surrey, is Chair of the Academy Trust at Collingwood College and a Member at EEEA Multi Academy Trust.
He has a national profile in governance and is the Head of Governance Services and creator of Better Governor, online governance platform, at Strictly Education. Steve has just completed a four-year term as Chair of the London Coordinators of Governance Services and sits on the board of the National Coordinators of Governance Services (NCOGS).
Linda has extensive experience of governing body clerking and governance in her career in education. She is the former Head of Governor Services in Kent and has served many terms of office as a governor.
She currently chairs a local governing body of a multi academy trust in West Sussex. Linda is a respected governance expert and supporting governance across the south east of England and is a valued member of the Strictly Education Team leading more than 200 webinars in the past year.
In addition to seven years in the Royal Navy, Sharon has over 30 years’ experience of working internationally in executive and team leadership for FTE 500, SMEs and start-ups. She is a specialist in ‘Future of Work’ behaviours and has co-founded two leadership coaching consultancies, one in Spain and the second in the UK.
She has taken the coaching lead in military, technical, academic, civil and social sectors. Sharon is a dynamic team coach, a highly skilled workshop facilitator and a thought-provoking speaker for the Trusted Executive Foundation.
Steve is an executive-level business leader with over 30 years’ experience across a wide variety of roles and functions in public, private listed and private equity businesses. Most recently Steve was Chief Operating Officer of a private equity-backed large automotive distribution company, leading a buy and build growth agenda, including significant change and transformation.
With the Trusted Executive Foundation, Steve is a positive, energetic and solutions-focussed speaker and coach with a passion for individual and team development.
When it comes to knowing the role of a governor and how to become one – Alice is your person. As a Partnership Manager at Governors for Schools, Alice supports hundreds of people every year to develop their understanding of what a school governor is. In addition to looking after the Merseyside and Lancashire region for the charity, Alice also facilitates the organisations monthly governor recruitment sessions.

Kirstie has extensive experience in HR with a career of over thirty years. She is Senior HR Consultant at Strictly Education providing HR support, advice and guidance to schools, academies and colleges across the country.
She leads the extensive training and professional development programme for HR training at Strictly Education and is an accomplished trainer and facilitator. Kirstie is a chartered member of Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) and a certified mediator.
