For 2023 our aim is to showcase governance, celebrate commitment and enhance recruitment of new governors. A day to raise awareness of the role of school governors and support existing governance through valuable professional development. The key theme this year is how school governance can support children, young people and their families impacted by the cost of living crisis.

1.00 pm | National Governance Association Session The National Governance Association (NGA) is the membership organisation for governors, trustees and governance professionals of state schools in England. Representing the views of governors, trustees and governance professionals at a national level and work closely with, and lobby, UK government and educational bodies, this session will examine the role of governance in supporting learners from different backgrounds during the cost of living crisis. 2.00 pm | Introduction to School Governance Governors for Schools A session for those interested to discover how to become a school governor. With the cost of living crisis in the UK, schools need more support than ever before. Do you have what it takes to be a school governor and make a difference? 4.00 pm | Social Mobility – Improving the prospects for disadvantaged young people Lee Elliot Major The first Chief Executive of the Sutton Trust and former trustee of the Education Endowment Foundation, Lee has become the UK’s leading voice in social mobility as Professor of Social Mobility at the University of Exeter. As a school governor himself, Lee’s session will see how social mobility can be achieved with the support of school governance.

7.00 pm | School Governor Round Table Chaired by Steve Barker The day will close with a round table discussion with school governors and experts from Strictly Education, Governors for Schools, National Governance Association and Thrive Approach. The panel will share their highlights of National School Governors’ Awareness Day and key takeaways from each of the day’s online workshops. This session is brought to you by Strictly Education
